Cascais is a coastal town in western-central Portugal, situated on the Atlantic-facing Cascais Bay. Established in 1364 and located just 30 kilometers west of Lisbon, it has a population of approximately 35,000. Close to Portugal’s capital, it is one of the country’s wealthiest regions. Originally a small fishing village, it became famous in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a holiday destination for the Portuguese royal family; today, it is a favored tourist spot for both locals and international visitors.

Cascais is a charming town that now boasts a large marina and soft sandy beaches surrounding the area, where visitors can fully enjoy the pleasures of the beach and sea. The streets are lined with cafés, and when street vendors set up their stalls, the whole area comes alive with color. In addition, there are several historic churches and chapels, as well as a 17th-century fortress that serves as the official residence of the President of Portugal. Nearby, you’ll also find prehistoric tombs. The town is easily accessible by car via the A5 Lisbon-Cascais highway or by affordable suburban train.
