The Vasco • da Gama Bridge is located in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. It is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Tagus River (Tagus), began construction in 1955, and was completed and opened to traffic in 1998. It was primarily built to alleviate the traffic flow on the 25th of April Bridge.

The Vasco • da Gama Bridge was named to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the voyage by the famous Portuguese navigator Vasco • da Gama, who reached India by sea from Europe. The bridge is 17.2 kilometers long, 30 meters wide, and 155 meters high, with a maximum span of 420 meters. It is currently the longest bridge in Portugal and all of Europe, as well as the ninth longest bridge in the world. The Vasco • da Gama Bridge has an estimated lifespan of 120 years, and is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 250 km/h and earthquakes of magnitude 8.7 on the Richter scale. During periods of strong winds, rain, or fog, the speed limit is set at a maximum of 90 km/h.

The Vasco • da Gama Bridge has six traffic lanes. When the daily traffic volume reaches 52,000 vehicles, the number of lanes will be expanded from six to eight, offering great convenience.
