The Museum of Electricity is located in the Belém district on the north bank of the Tagus River in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Established in 1990, it is a scientific and industrial archaeology museum centered around the evolution of energy. Originally the Central Tejo power station, it has become an indispensable part of Lisbon.

As a center for cultural exchange, the Museum of Electricity presents to visitors the past, present, and future of electricity development. Complementing the industrial architecture and science museum, it allows visitors to see the practical application of various industrial concepts and experimental analysis methods, with each exhibit closely tied to its respective culture. The Museum of Electricity not only houses a wide range of tangible exhibits, but also boasts a rich collection of technical materials. Through activities such as major overhauls, the museum prioritizes the restoration and improvement of each exhibit. It enhances its collection by acquiring, preserving, and cataloging new components, introducing parts and materials from other Portuguese power plants, especially those of significant value. Currently, the museum holds a vast collection of movable equipment assets, such as boilers, turbo generators, and condensers produced between 1930 and 1950. It also preserves important power generation equipment and accessories from the late 19th century to the present, particularly emphasizing generator sets, electrical terminals, wooden or iron modules and components for public and domestic lighting, laboratory equipment, valves, covers, and more.

Over the years, the Museum of Electricity has organized a variety of colorful activities both indoors and outdoors, including temporary exhibitions, “Science Month,” concerts, and seminars. Every May, the Science Month series is held, featuring a concentration of scientific lectures that revisit the history of electricity science.
