National Stadium of Portugal

The National Stadium of Portugal is located in the “Jamor Sports Complex” in Oeiras, Lisbon, serving as the country's national football stadium. Its construction began in 1939, and it was completed and inaugurated in 1944 by Prime Minister Salazar, making it one of Portugal’s most important football stadiums.

The National Stadium of Portugal can accommodate 37,593 spectators for matches. Since 1946, it has been the traditional venue for the finals of the Portuguese Cup, with only five tournaments held at other stadiums. By 2009, a total of 62 cup finals had taken place here, making a significant contribution to Portugal’s sports legacy. One of the most historic matches hosted at the stadium was the 1967 European Cup Final, where Scotland's Celtic faced Italy's Inter Milan. Celtic won 2-1, becoming the first British team to claim the title, earning them the nickname “The Lisbon Lions.”
