The Sintra Natural History Museum is located in the heart of Sintra and opened in 2009. It is a museum dedicated to natural history and one of the best places to visit in Sintra. With its rich and diverse collection and high-quality exhibits, the museum is considered one of the best natural history museums in Portugal and holds national and international standards.

Most of the collections in the museum come from Miguel Barbosa and his wife. After more than 50 years of collecting, the couple eventually established this museum, which houses over 10,000 fossils and possesses both cultural and scientific value. The museum presents the origins and development of nature and life from the Precambrian to the Quaternary period, covering fields such as paleontology, mineralogy, malacology, and petrography, with collections from all over the world. The museum consists of continuous exhibitions, permanent exhibition halls, temporary exhibition halls, preserved collections, laboratories, research rooms, gardens, a café, and more. The permanent collection alone contains over 10,000 items, most notably trilobite fossils and several rare and precious dinosaur fossils. In addition, there are many exquisite minerals that are highly attractive to visitors.
