Palace of Queluz

The Palace of Queluz is located in the historic Portuguese city of Sintra and is a neoclassical-style palace that has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the "Cultural Landscape of Sintra." It was built for the Dutch consul between 1783 and 1787, situated on a hilltop, offering expansive views of the surrounding Sintra Mountains from inside the palace.

The Palace of Queluz was expanded between 1801 and 1802 into a symmetrical U-shaped building. The main façade’s cornice is decorated with typical neoclassical motifs such as vases, busts, and garland reliefs. In 1802, a grand neoclassical arch connected the old and new wings to commemorate the visit of Prince Regent João VI and his wife that year. The arch is adorned with bronze statues of the royal couple and a Latin inscription. The garden was redesigned in the Romantic style, resulting in a charming and elegant space that offers a serene escape from daily worries. This graceful garden has also become the venue for the Dance Night, one of the highlights of the Sintra Music Festival. The interior walls of the palace are decorated with murals painted by French artists, featuring exotic vegetation and mythological figures in typical neoclassical style.

Since 1954, the Palace of Queluz has functioned as a luxury hotel while retaining its original features. It is now a renowned luxury hotel, restaurant, and tourist attraction.
