Chengchuan Ancient City Site

Chengchuan Ancient City Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Huoluochaideng Ancient City Site is located in Haoraochaidamu Sumu, Hangjin Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The ancient city has a rectangular layout, measuring approximately 1,446 meters from east to west and about 1,100 meters from north to south. The city walls were built with rammed earth, with a base width of 13 meters and remaining heights of 0.5 to 2 meters. A main east-west street, about 50 meters wide, runs through the center of the city. In the central western part, there is a large building platform foundation, and in its northeastern area, there are coin-casting site remains. The cultural layer within the city is about 0.8 meters thick, yielding artifacts such as rope-patterned cylindrical and flat tiles, concave-cord-patterned flat tiles, diamond-patterned square bricks, and “Qianqiu” (Longevity) roof tiles. To the east, south, and west of the city are large-scale burial sites, including vertical earthen pits, brick-chambered tombs, and earthen cave tombs. In 1971, 57 tombs were excavated, unearthing gray pottery and glazed pottery items such as granaries, stoves, wells, jars, and incense burners, as well as bronze vessels like fang (square wine containers), hu (jars), and “Wuzhu” (five-zhu) coins. Based on the discovery of a bronze seal inscribed “Xihé Nónglìng” (Agricultural Official of Xihé Commandery) and related relics, it is estimated that the site dates back to the period from Emperor Wu of Han to Wang Mang, falling within the jurisdiction of the Xihé Commandery.

In May 2006, the Huoluochaideng Ancient City Site was designated as part of the sixth group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
