Help Axi “catch a room” — choose legal accommodations and stay safer by saying no to illegal short-term rentals

Illegal short-term rental suites are becoming increasingly rampant, leading to many social issues and scams. Some people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning, others have lost their deposits, and there have even been reports of terrifying incidents such as a Hong Kong tourist being secretly filmed by a pinhole camera installed by a fellow countryman. To safeguard the accommodation safety of travelers, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation has launched the “Anti Short-Term Rentals – Everyone Take Action” campaign starting today. Led by Axi, who has served as the spokesperson against short-term rentals for three consecutive years, the campaign calls on everyone to join in reporting illegal short-term rental suites.

Axi is publicly recruiting five female university graduates or recent graduates to join the ranks of anti short-term rental ambassadors. Those selected as anti short-term rental ambassadors will not only receive accommodation vouchers worth tens of thousands of dollars but also be awarded an honorary anti short-term rental banner presented by the Tourism Bureau. They will also promote the cause alongside spokesperson Axi and Taiwan’s Oh Bear on campuses and in commercial districts across central, southern, and northern Taiwan, as well as gain international exposure through overseas offices.

This campaign targets students, backpackers, and young people. Starting in August, a series of widespread anti short-term rental activities will be carried out. The public passing through Taipei Railway Station, MRT stations, Jingmao Transfer Station, Kuo-Kuang Bus, Ximending, or tuning into radio broadcasts and online platforms will be able to see and hear anti short-term rental slogans, as well as promotional videos that use satirical and humorous techniques based on past news events.

The Tourism Bureau once again strongly urges everyone that to ensure your own safety and comfort during travel, always choose legal accommodations when going on trips and avoid staying in short-term rental suites, to provide yourself and your family with safe and wonderful travel memories.
