Ulanhot Martyrs' Cemetery
Ulanhot Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural heritage site protected by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and a classic red tourism destination.
Ulanhot Martyrs' Cemetery is located east of Genghis Khan Park in Ulanhot City, Xing'an League, Inner Mongolia.
Established in 1948, Ulanhot Martyrs' Cemetery was originally located 150 meters east of Ulanhot Railway Station. The cemetery spans 120,000 square meters with a built-up area of 6,114 square meters. At its heart stands a martyrs' memorial tower, facing south and shaped like an upright bayonet, standing 15 meters tall. The front of the tower bears the inscription "Martyrs' Memorial Tower of the People's Liberation War," written by [Name], while the back is inscribed with the words "Eternal glory to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the people's liberation war!" also penned by [Name].
In 1975, the government of Horqin Right Front Banner renovated the Ulanhot Martyrs' Cemetery, which had been severely damaged during the Cultural Revolution. The rebuilt memorial tower now faces west instead of east, changing from a bayonet shape to a torch shape, and stands 18 meters tall. The tower still displays the original inscription and text written by [Name]. Additionally, a revolutionary martyrs' memorial hall and a revolutionary martyrs' shrine were newly constructed.
In 2000, the Ulanhot Martyrs' Cemetery was relocated to the mountainside east of the city’s northern forest park and expanded to national standards for revolutionary martyrs' memorial structures. The newly built "Martyrs' Memorial Tower of the People's Liberation War" is situated at the highest point of the cemetery, facing south and covering an area of 1,010 square meters. The torch-shaped tower stands 23.7 meters tall and features the original inscription and text by [Name]. To the left and right front of the tower base sit symmetrical rectangular revolutionary martyrs' memorial halls and shrines, each covering 238.5 square meters. The martyrs' memorial hall has a 56-meter-long
exhibition line primarily showcasing the combat achievements of the First Cavalry Division of Inner Mongolia during the Liaoshen Campaign. The martyrs' shrine houses the ashes of 325 revolutionary martyrs. Granite group sculptures flank the steps, including an eight-meter-tall sculpture of the Inner Mongolia Cavalry on the southwest side and a memorial tower for Soviet Red Army martyrs on the southeast side. Outside the cemetery gate wall are nine golden characters reading "Ulanhot Martyrs' Cemetery," inscribed by Buhe, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
In March 1996, Ulanhot Martyrs' Cemetery was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region by the People's Government of Inner Mongolia. On April 30, 2001, it was approved by the State Council as a national-level revolutionary martyrs' memorial protection site.
