The Inner Mongolia National Liberation Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The Inner Mongolia National Liberation Memorial Hall is situated in Ulanhot City, the birthplace of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It was constructed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is the first commemorative exhibition hall in China’s ethnic minority regions after the founding of the People’s Republic of China that fully reflects the history of regional ethnic autonomy, and also the first national liberation memorial hall in Inner Mongolia. It is the first memorial exhibition hall since the founding of New China that comprehensively depicts the journey of national liberation in ethnic minority regions.

The Inner Mongolia National Liberation Memorial Hall is located on the north side of the eastern end of Kuangquan Street, Ulanhot City, Xing'an League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

To reflect and reproduce the historical process of Inner Mongolia's national liberation and regional autonomy, and to showcase the development achievements of the revolutionary old base areas, the Inner Mongolia National Liberation Memorial Hall was approved by the government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and commenced construction in Ulanhot City in June 2006. It was officially completed and opened to the public in July 2007 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The memorial hall has a four-story structure (three above ground and one underground), covering a land area of 30,000 square meters and a building area of 23,000 square meters.

The total investment in the memorial hall was 96 million yuan, covering an area of approximately 30,000 square meters, with an exhibition area of 3,500 square meters. It consists of three parts: the prelude hall, the main exhibition hall, and the martyrs’ hall. There is also a square in front of the hall, where two cannons are displayed. The main exhibition hall is divided into four units: The Shocking Spring Thunder, The Flames of the Anti-Japanese War, The Dawn of Victory, and The Eternal Monument. The martyrs’ hall includes four units: Revolutionary Pioneers, Return Our Rivers and Mountains, For the New China, and The Brave Iron Cavalry.

Centered around the 60-year journey of Inner Mongolia’s national liberation and regional autonomy, the theme of the exhibition is positioned as: Without the leadership of the Communist Party of China, there would be no national liberation in Inner Mongolia; without the national liberation of Inner Mongolia, there would be no 60 years of regional autonomy. Through photographs, cultural relics, scene models, as well as various artistic and technical means such as sound, light, and electricity, the exhibition fully showcases ethnic, cultural, and regional characteristics.

Collections

The memorial hall houses a collection of 2,123 cultural relics and documentary materials, including 340 treasures, 34 weapons, and over 15,000 historical books. On display are two airplanes, one tank, four artillery pieces, one heavy machine gun, three light machine guns, and 28 various firearms of different lengths. There are also more than 780 precious photographs and 5,480 various cultural relics and documentary materials. The site features four large-scale scenes, two group sculptures, two individual sculptures, and 58 pieces of artwork.
