The Exchange Building on Vasilyevsky Island’s Long Beach
Designed by Thomma de Thomon, the building features statues: one side depicts a figure riding out of the waves with the Neva and Volkhov rivers in tow; the other shows a young woman representing the Neva River, crowned and surrounded by the two rivers and the god of commerce, Mercury. Thirty-meter-tall pylons shaped like boatmen stand on either side of the square, adorned with allegorical statues. Highlights: It now houses the Navy Museum.
