The Winter Palace, one of the world’s top five museums, plans to open a Moscow branch in 2022

One of the well-known museums in St. Petersburg, also referred to as one of the world’s top five museums—the State Hermitage Museum (Winter Palace)—will establish a branch in Moscow as part of the ZILART complex development plan. The new branch is scheduled to open in 2022, with exhibitions primarily focused on modern art.
According to our-russia.com, the new branch will cover an area of 140,000 square feet. This 15-story modern building features a terraced interior design. The design was undertaken by LSR Company (LSR Group), which aimed to further evolve the architectural style of the Hermitage Museum while retaining elements of this historic landmark to some extent.
“Moscow isn’t as conservative as St. Petersburg. People here are already accustomed to contemporary art, and the Hermitage Museum has extensive experience in hosting large-scale exhibitions,” said Director Dmitry Ozerkov.
