The Bolshoi Theatre is a renowned ballet and opera house in Moscow. It is the city's oldest musical theatre and the oldest theatre in Russia. With a long and illustrious history, it is one of the most famous theatres in the world and also serves as a treasure trove for global performing arts and ballet. The Bolshoi Theatre was originally built in 1776, destroyed by fire in 1805, and rebuilt in 1825.

The rebuilt Bolshoi Theatre is a pale yellow Russian classical building in the late neoclassical style. Its façade features a portico supported by eight columns, topped with a triangular pediment adorned with a quadriga driven by the sun god Apollo. The design is majestic and graceful. The theatre is famed for its five-tier auditorium and world-class acoustics, making it one of the finest theatre buildings in the world. It houses a first-rate opera company, ballet troupe, orchestra, and choir, making it the most iconic theatre in Russia. The auditorium is oval-shaped, with a ceiling 21 meters high, a length of 25 meters, and a width of 26 meters. In addition to accommodating 2,150 seats, the stage can host a massive cast of 1,500 performers. All the operas by the renowned Russian Romantic composer Tchaikovsky have been performed at the Bolshoi.
