Tsar Bell

The Tsar Bell is located in front of the Kremlin in Moscow, the capital of Russia. Its Russian name means "Tsar of Bells" and refers to the "Bell King." This bronze bell was cast under the order of Empress Anna Ivanovna. Its casting began in 1733 and was completed in 1735. Its name signifies its status—as the largest bell in the world.

The Tsar Bell stands 6.14 meters tall, has a diameter of 6.6 meters, and weighs 216 tons. Its surface is adorned with reliefs, portraits, and inscriptions. The decorative and carving work alone took one year to complete. The central part of the bell features portraits of members of the royal family, fulfilling the purpose of creating the Tsar Bell—to make it a symbol of Russia's might. It is said that when first cast, its sound could be heard up to 50 kilometers away. Unfortunately, in 1737, the Tsar Bell was damaged by a fire, and a part of it was destroyed, rendering it unable to ring ever again. The Tsar Bell can truly be considered a masterpiece of sculpture, leaving every visitor in awe of its grandeur.

To this day, the Tsar Bell remains an unsurpassed symbol of Russian casting art, as no expert—whether from Europe, Asia, the Americas, or even Russia—has been able to break this record.
