Novodevichy Cemetery is situated in the outskirts of Moscow, the capital of Russia, and spans an area of 7.5 hectares. It is the most well-known cemetery in Moscow and one of the three most prestigious cemeteries in Europe. Notable figures such as the great writer Alexander Pushkin, authors Nikolai Gogol, Anton Chekhov, Vladimir Mayakovsky, and Alexander Fadeyev, composer Dmitry Shostakovich, theatre theorist Konstantin Stanislavski, ballerina Galina Ulanova, painter Isaac Levitan, scientists Andrei Tupolev and Nikolai Vavilov, and politicians Anastas Mikoyan and Nikolai Podgorny—all of whom played a significant role in shaping Russian history—are laid to rest here.
