Zhukovsky

Zhukovsky is a city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located on the Moskva River, about 40 kilometers from the capital and regional center, Moscow. The city was established in 1935 as Stakhanovo, named after the famous miner Alexey Stakhanov. In 1947, it was developed into a town and renamed Zhukovsky in honor of Nikolai Zhukovsky, a pioneer in aerodynamics and hydrodynamics.

The Gromov Flight Research Institute, the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, and the Cyprus International Management Institute are all located in Zhukovsky. The city is known as the “City of Science and Technology” and the “Aerospace Industry Center” of the Russian Federation. It also hosts the Russian air show and has been praised by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a place with “minds full of wisdom and hands of gold.” Zhukovsky serves as the hub for athletics in Moscow Oblast, with its most notable athlete being Yuriy Borzakovskiy. In 2005, a world-class athletic stadium was put into use.
