Khimki

Khimki

Khimki is a city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, located northwest of Moscow on the western bank of the Moscow Canal. It was founded in 1939 and remained closed to outsiders for a long time due to its development as a center for military industry. During the Great Patriotic War (World War II), this area marked the eastern limit of the Nazi German advance.

After World War II, it became a hub for aerospace and defense development under the Soviet Union and is now home to the Civil Defense Academy of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Russian International Tourism Institute. The Khimki War Memorial was erected in honor of two Soviet pilots and four Red Army soldiers who made great contributions to world peace.
