Balashikha

Balashikha is a city in the central part of Moscow Oblast, Russia, located on the Pekhorka River east of Moscow. It was founded in 1830 and became a city in 1939. During the Soviet era, it developed into an important industrial hub, focusing on metallurgy, aviation, low-temperature refrigeration technology, machinery, and more.

Balashikha is known for its unique rivers and waterways that stretch 40 kilometers from north to south and 20 kilometers from east to west. In the 19th century, these formed numerous small lakes and ponds, which have also become popular spots for leisure and recreation. The Balashikha Arena, which opened in 2007 with over 6,000 seats, replaced the former Vityaz Ice Palace and serves as the home arena for the Kontinental Hockey League. The city is also home to the Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy (Moscow Oblast branch).
