Georges Labit Museum
The Georges Labit Museum is located in Toulouse, France, and is a museum dedicated to the display of ancient artifacts from the civilizations of the Far East and Egypt. The museum was founded by Georges Labit (1862–1899), an enthusiastic amateur antiquities enthusiast who, in his quest for ancient artworks and artifacts, traveled to many places around the world with ancient civilizations, collecting a wealth of artifacts rich in ancient cultural characteristics, which led to the establishment of this museum.
The museum is housed in a Moorish-style villa where Georges Labit once lived. It was built under the direction of Toulouse architect Jules Calbayrac. In addition to the museum exhibition halls, this complex also features an exotic garden, a specialized library, and a projection room. This is a museum that offers a panoramic view of three thousand years of history, with exhibits from India, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Tibet, Nepal, China, and Japan, as well as unique collections of Egyptian antiquities and Coptic art. Rooms arranged in a Moorish style display Khmer sculptures, Qing Dynasty pottery from China, small statues from Tibet and Nepal, Japanese samurai armor and masks, among other items.
