Malaysia Airlines Celebrates Launch of A380 Superjumbo with Discounts to Europe

Starting in March, Malaysia Airlines will operate the A380 on the Kuala Lumpur–Paris Charles de Gaulle route, making Paris the second international destination after London to be served by the A380. To celebrate the upgrade, the airline has launched a special Europe promotion, with round-trip flights from Taipei to London starting as low as NT$13,499 for selected flights, and round-trip fares to Paris and Frankfurt starting as low as NT$16,952 (fares do not include airport taxes and fuel surcharges).

Additionally, starting in March, Malaysia Airlines will increase its daily seat capacity on the Kuala Lumpur–Paris route by 75%, upgrading from the existing B777 aircraft with 282 seats to the A380 superjumbo with 494 seats.

Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airlines, explained: “This is a highly significant development. In response to market demand, we have increased the passenger capacity of this popular route by 75%. Compared to the same period last year, bookings for the Kuala Lumpur–Paris route in March 2013 increased by 87%, while bookings for the Paris–Kuala Lumpur route grew by an even more impressive 123%. I believe this growth is also attributed to our official membership in the Oneworld alliance starting February 1, 2013.”

Malaysia Airlines has ordered a total of six A380 aircraft. The fifth A380 was delivered on February 22, and the sixth A380 is expected to be delivered in mid-March. It will be the 100th A380 superjumbo aircraft produced by Airbus in Toulouse, France.
