Toulouse is located on the Garonne River in southwestern France, midway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It serves as the capital of the Haute-Garonne department and the Occitanie region. The city is the fourth largest in France, after Paris, Lyon, and Marseille.
