Grande Mosque of Paris

The Grande Mosque of Paris (Grande Mosquée de Paris) is located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, just one mile away from the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral, and is the largest mosque in France and the second largest in Europe. It was built after World War I, primarily as a gesture of gratitude by France to the Muslim soldiers from its colonies who fought against Germany. On July 15, 1926, when the mosque was completed, President Gaston Doumergue personally inaugurated it and presided over the dedication ceremony, with the first public prayer led by Algerian Sufi leader Ahmad al-Alawi (1869–1934).

The Grande Mosque is designed in the Moorish style, featuring exquisite craftsmanship and elegant forms: its snow-white walls, green roof, and tall North African-style minaret add a beautiful landscape to this renowned European city.
