Baghdad is located in the central part of the Mesopotamian Plain and is the capital of Iraq, as well as the capital of Baghdad Governorate. It is the largest city in Iraq and serves as the country’s economic and cultural center. Historically, Baghdad was the political, religious, economic, commercial, academic, and transportation hub of Islamic civilization.

In the Middle East, Baghdad ranks fourth after Cairo, Tehran, and Istanbul, and second in the Arab world after Cairo. Despite years of conflict in Iraq, Baghdad remains a city rich in historical landmarks. Must-visit attractions include the Baghdad Tower, the Iraq National Museum, Baghdad Zoo, and the Kazimiya Mosque. The Iraq National Museum houses artifacts from Mesopotamian civilization, making its collection one of the most important in the world. The Kazimiya Mosque is a grand architectural complex consisting of a mosque and mausoleum, where notable historians such as Sheikh Mufid and Nasir al-Din al-Tusi are buried.
