Azem Palace (Damascus)

The Azem Palace (Damascus) was first built in 1750 as a residence for Ottoman rulers. The palace features traditional Damascene architecture and is divided into two parts: one section, called -, served as the living quarters for the family, including a kitchen, servant dormitories, and bathrooms; the other section was designed for guests and included reception halls, guest rooms, and a large courtyard with a big fountain in the center.

The Azem Palace (Damascus) is constructed from limestone, sandstone, basalt, and marble, giving it an exceptionally elegant, grain-textured exterior that makes it particularly eye-catching, with strong graphic and visual appeal. The ceilings of the palace are adorned with wooden panels intricately carved with beautiful landscapes. During the 1925 Syrian Revolution, the palace was severely damaged by French troops, and it has been restored and repurposed as a museum showcasing traditional art since then.
