The UK-based Economist Intelligence Unit recently released the "2015 Global Liveability Ranking," with Melbourne, Australia, taking the top spot once again. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Melbourne has claimed the championship, while Taipei achieved a ranking of 60th in this edition.

The Economist Intelligence Unit scores 140 cities worldwide each year based on factors such as stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. In this year’s survey, Melbourne, situated along the Yarra River in Australia, not only boasts a pleasant climate but also exudes a rich cultural atmosphere. The city is home to the world’s highest density of commercial art galleries, Australia’s largest music festival, a vibrant nightlife, and distinctive laneways such as Hosier Lane known for its street art. For coffee lovers, the city is filled with the enticing aroma of coffee, offering over 2,000 cafes to explore. Whether it’s art, food, ecology, sports, or festivals, Melbourne has earned praise from judges. This livable city is also highly favored by travelers and is one of the popular destinations in the Southern Hemisphere.

Following Melbourne, the rankings are Austria’s Vienna, Vancouver, Toronto, with Adelaide in Australia and Calgary in Canada’s Alberta province tied for fifth place.

Other well-known global metropolises such as Tokyo, Paris, New York, and London have seen issues such as infrastructure strain due to their large scale and gradually rising crime rates. This year, Tokyo ranked 15th, Paris 29th, London 53rd, and New York 55th. Taipei ranked 60th, while the bottom of the list was taken by war-torn Syria.
