Medina
Introduction: The old city of Medina is one of the main attractions in the city of Sousse and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old city is famous for its ancient fortress and the Great Mosque. The fortress was built in 821 AD and historically served as a lighthouse and watchtower, forming an important part of the coastal defense system. The Great Mosque was commissioned in 851 AD by King Muhammad of the Aghlabid Dynasty. The mosque walls are extremely thick, constructed from square stones, and it has no minaret. Instead, there are three domed towers at three of its corners. The mosque courtyard is paved with white marble, giving it an antique charm.
