A crystal spaceship-like structure emerges in the desert, exuding futuristic tech vibes as a new landmark of the oil hub

The astonishing works of the late legendary female architect Zaha Hadid can be seen all over the world, and one of her most futuristic creations is located in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. This is the KAPSARC petroleum research center, a pure white hexagonal crystal building with a structure resembling an interconnected honeycomb that resembles a spaceship in the desert.

Covering an area of 70,000 square meters, this petroleum research center consists of five buildings: the Energy Knowledge Center, Energy Computer Center, Conference Center, Research Library, and a space for prayer. The building was constructed under the concept of high technology and environmental integration, reducing energy consumption and earning LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The exterior of the petroleum research center features a porous structure that resists extreme climates, and enclosed atriums designed within the various buildings help mitigate intense sunlight. Additionally, solar panels are installed to make full use of the abundant desert sunlight, and all drinking water is recycled, addressing the issue of scarce water resources.
