Jeddah Fountain

The Jeddah Fountain was constructed between 1980 and 1983 and began operation in 1985. Its full name is the King Fahd’s Fountain. It is a rather unique fountain — it isn’t located in a royal palace or on a square, but rather in the sea. This is because King Fahd loved the ocean, so his royal residence in Jeddah, known as the “Peace Palace,” was built along the coast. After the completion of the Peace Palace, to integrate the palace and the sea as one unified architectural vision, the designers decided to place the fountain in the sea, creating a seawater fountain.

The Jeddah Fountain is internationally recognized as an architectural masterpiece and has now become a symbol of Jeddah. Its water jets reach up to 312 meters, making it the tallest fountain in the world. The fountain uses saltwater from the Red Sea rather than freshwater, and the water can reach speeds of up to 375 kilometers per hour. The Jeddah Fountain was donated by King Fahd to the Port of Jeddah and is visible throughout the city. The fountain’s jet soars into the sky before gently falling back down and merging with the sea.

Under the gentle breeze of the Red Sea, the distant Jeddah Fountain resembles a curtain of pearls hanging in the sky. Visitors often pause here, reluctant to leave, marveling at humanity’s endless creativity. At night, 500 spotlights are used to highlight the fountain, enhancing its enchanting beauty.
