Wat Ounalom

Introduction The largest and oldest temple in Phnom Penh, featuring the city’s biggest stupa. "Ounalom" means "eyebrow," and legend has it that a great monk’s eyebrow is enshrined within the stupa. The stupa houses Buddhist relics brought from Sri Lanka in 1890, which is why many dignitaries have chosen to build columbariums here to store their ancestors’ ashes near the Buddha, gradually forming a cluster of stupas. It is now the headquarters of the Cambodian Buddhist organization, where you can observe monks studying and discussing in their daily lives. Transportation Wat Ounalom is located by the Tonlé Sap River. From the National Museum, head north, continue along Street 13 going north, then turn right (east) at Street 154. Admission/Open Hours Free entry (closed at noon).
