Ranking of Airports in 15 Asian Cities — Taoyuan Airport Ranked 9th

A global hotel booking website today (15th) released the “Best Airports in Asia” ranking, with Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport ranked 9th among 15 Asian cities. Evaluated and voted on by over 10,000 travelers, the ranking scored airports based on various facilities such as wayfinding, signage, and dining options to gauge passenger satisfaction. The top spot went to Singapore Changi Airport, followed by Hong Kong International Airport, while Taiwan Taoyuan Airport ranked ninth.

Online hotel booking site Agoda.com used 15 major Asian city airports as evaluation targets, collecting scores from a total of 11,000 traveler opinions. The major city airports evaluated include Bangkok, Beijing, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, New Delhi, Phnom Penh, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, Vientiane, and Yangon.

Singapore Changi International Airport (Changi Airport) claimed the top spot with an overall average score of 4.37. Changi Airport has long been known for its high efficiency and continuous improvements and upgrades to its facilities. It consistently ranks among the top three in almost all global airport rankings and evaluations. In 2012, Changi Airport served 51 million passengers, making it a highly trafficked and popular airport.

In second place with an overall average score of 4.13 was Hong Kong International Airport (Hong Kong International Airport). Built on a large area of reclaimed land in the South China Sea, Hong Kong Airport is renowned for its convenient transfer services and high-tech design, making it another consistent high performer alongside Singapore Changi Airport in various airport evaluations. In 2012, Hong Kong Airport handled a passenger traffic of 56 million.

Coming in third is Seoul Incheon International Airport, followed by New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Tokyo Narita Airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport, and Cambodia’s Phnom Penh International Airport. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport ranked ninth. When Taoyuan Airport opened in 1979, it had only one terminal. In 2000, the second terminal was officially launched to accommodate rapidly growing travel demand. The third terminal is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in 2018, which will allow the airport to handle up to 43 million passengers annually. Last year, Taoyuan Airport handled a cargo volume of 1.5 million tons.
