Paya Indah Wetlands

Paya Indah Wetlands is located in the town of Dragon Valley in Kuala Langat District, Selangor. Established in 1997, it is a natural wetland park covering an area of 3,200 hectares, consisting of an ecosystem zone, disused mining lake areas, as well as peat swamp forests and wetlands.

Prior to 1997, this area was a mining site. After mining operations stopped, it transformed into a natural conservation area, with the environment gradually restored to its former state and wildlife and vegetation well protected. The wetland park boasts abundant natural resources and expansive green spaces. Currently, it is home to over 130 species of birds, 30 species of mammals, 220 species of terrestrial and aquatic plants, and more than 40 types of fish. Among these animals, most are native species, but there are also some foreign ones, such as crocodiles and hippos originating from Botswana. Visitors can explore the park’s peat swamp forests and lakes by bicycle, horseback, or boat.

Paya Indah Wetlands features facilities such as a research and development center and eco-friendly holiday chalets. From October each year to April of the following year, it becomes a resting spot for migratory birds traveling south from the Northern Hemisphere, attracting many birdwatching enthusiasts during this season.
