Home Stay in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor – A New Experience of Malaysian Culture

In 2012, the key focus of Tourism Malaysia's promotional efforts in Taiwan was the “Malaysia Home Stay” program, inviting Taiwanese visitors to stay in local traditional homestays and deeply experience Malaysian culture through engaging with the daily lives of local residents.

According to statistics, since Taiwan implemented the visa-free policy for Malaysian travelers in March 2011, the number of Taiwanese tourists visiting Malaysia reached 233,787, a 10.7% increase compared to 2010. This year, Tourism Malaysia has introduced a new type of travel experience called “Home Stay” in Taiwan. Participants will stay in local traditional homestays and immerse themselves in Malaysian traditional culture by living alongside the host families.
The initial Home Stay locations selected are Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. As the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur leads the nation in commerce, trade, finance, information technology, and tourism. Located on the western side of Malaysia, Selangor boasts abundant natural resources and the stunningly beautiful Firefly River, which attracts a large number of visitors each year. The Batu Caves, a popular destination for domestic tour groups, is also located within Selangor.

Tourism Malaysia will also hold a series of events titled “The Best of Times is in Malaysia – Where Asian Charm Lives” at Taipei’s Xinyi Vivocity Pedestrian Zone over the next two days (the 17th and 18th). In addition to experiencing traditional Malaysian batik and beading culture, visitors can enjoy free tastings of limited-edition Malaysian cuisine. Those who collect all the event stamps will have a chance to participate in a lucky draw with prizes including round-trip flights to Malaysia, among other major awards. The public is welcome to join in.
