Electric scooter rental launched on 17th to build carbon-free tourism island of Xiaoliuqiu

The "Electric Scooter Trial Operation Plan" promoted by Pingtung County Government on Xiaoliuqiu officially commenced on March 17. In the initial phase of operation, 300 electric scooters will be available for tourists to rent on the island, with four battery exchange stations set up across the island, striving to build Xiaoliuqiu into a carbon-free tourism island.

Xiaoliuqiu receives around 260,000 tourists annually, with scooters being the main mode of transportation for visitors. To reduce human-induced pollution and lower carbon emissions, the first batch of electric scooters will be launched on the 17th. Initially, four battery exchange stations will be set up in Baisha, Dafu, Wuguidong, and Zhongshan Road in Liuchiu Township to address charging issues. The number of electric scooters will be increased gradually based on tourist demand. The results of the operation will also serve as an evaluation basis for the future full replacement of fuel-powered scooters on Xiaoliuqiu, turning this island rich in precious natural resources into a carbon-free tourism destination.

To allow more people to experience electric scooters, a “Green Energy 101 – New Era of Mobility” electric scooter launch ceremony will be held on Xiaoliuqiu tomorrow morning (17th), inviting a hundred green energy riders to be the first to take an island-wide electric scooter ride. The public is welcome to visit Xiaoliuqiu and enjoy a quiet, pollution-free, and refreshing scooter tour around the island.

The rental fee for electric scooters is NT$300 on weekdays and NT$400 on holidays. Visitors can enjoy a NT$100 discount on the rental fee by completing a survey questionnaire.
