Pulau Ketam

Pulau Ketam is a charming little fishing village located just outside Port Klang in Selangor. Also known as "Crab Island," it earned this nickname due to its abundant crab population. Most of the island’s residents make a living from fishing, leading simple, laid-back, and unpretentious lives.

Geologically, Pulau Ketam is a wetland, with the entire island covered in muddy terrain. During high tide, the entire island is submerged, leaving no dry land in sight. As a result, the houses here are built on stilts, with legs ranging from 1 to 2 feet in height, up to as much as 8 to 10 feet or more, creating a unique fishing village landscape. The surrounding waters are rich in fish, and the mangrove swamps support a diverse range of wildlife, attracting many bird species that thrive in wetland environments. The island is also home to the distinctive Fiddler Crab and Mud Crab, as well as the mudskipper – an amphibious fish that can even climb trees. There are two notable attractions on the island: the Nan Tian Gong Temple and Fu Long Gong Temple, both of which host annual festivals.

Pulau Ketam is famous for its seafood, with numerous seafood restaurants lining the streets from the pier to the main area. Visitors can watch fishermen catch jellyfish and crabs at the fishing grounds, and observe locals making their beloved shrimp fritters.
