Malay Heritage Centre
The Malay Heritage Centre is located at the Sultan Gate in Kampong Glam. Established in 2004 and opened to the public in 2005, it spans 8,000 square metres and is a centre dedicated to showcasing the heritage, culture, and history of Singapore’s Malay community.
Flourishing Gelam Trees (Gelam Tree) grow on the exterior of the Malay Heritage Centre, and there are replicas of Malay vessels displayed, inscribed with information about the Bugis people. The main exhibition venue of the centre is the Malay Heritage Museum, which presents the culture, history, and related heritage of the Malays in Singapore through handicrafts, multimedia, and paintings. In addition to the physical exhibitions at the cultural centre, various Malay cultural programmes and workshops are also conducted to offer a comprehensive understanding of the history and culture of Singapore’s Malay community.
