Central Sikh Temple

The Central Sikh Temple was built in 1912 as Singapore's first gurdwara and is also the largest Sikh temple in the country. It was constructed to commemorate the 518th birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak, and currently serves as a place of worship and spiritual solace for over 15,000 Sikhs in Singapore.

The Central Sikh Temple is a blend of traditional and modern architecture. Its marble exterior gives off a contemporary vibe, while its uniquely designed arched doorway features layers of overlapping curves. However, the prayer hall’s dome is of traditional design. The temple can accommodate up to 15,000 worshippers. Religious facilities include a large prayer hall, a dining hall, and a kitchen. The prayer hall’s dome spans 13 meters and is adorned with stunning white, grey, and gold mosaic tiles. The floor is carpeted, the interior is air-conditioned, and it also houses a sacred Sikh scripture. The ground floor contains the dining hall and kitchen, while the second floor has seating for 400 to 500 people, with standing room for an additional 1,500.

The Central Sikh Temple also provides dedicated rooms for visitors and religious leaders, along with classrooms for religious studies. Additionally, there is a library and a museum that house books related to Sikhism.
