Jamae Mosque

Jamae Mosque is located on Neil Road in the Kampong Glam district of Singapore's Kallang Planning Area. Designed by colonial architect Thomson and completed in 1846, it is a fusion of Islamic and European architectural styles, named after the Malay female businesswoman Hajjah Fatimah.

Designated as a national monument of Singapore in 1873, Jamae Mosque is surrounded by high walls and consists of a prayer hall, the tomb of its benefactress, the imam’s residence, a wudhu (ablution) area, several annexes, and a garden. The mosque’s dome features 12 pointed windows, each adorned with colorful stained glass, creating a striking visual effect. Perhaps the most unusual feature of Jamae Mosque is its distinctively designed minaret, created by a European architect. This peculiar minaret is slightly tilted—about 6 degrees off the central axis—making it one of the most unique sights in Singapore.
