Incheon Bridge

Incheon Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located in Incheon Metropolitan City, South Korea, connecting the Songdo International Business District and Incheon International Airport. When it opened to traffic in October 2009, it became the second bridge linking Yeongjong Island and Incheon after Yeongjong Bridge. As of October 2010, Incheon Bridge was the longest cable-stayed bridge in South Korea and the 7th longest in the world.

Designed and constructed by Samsung C&T Corporation, with subcontracts from British firm Halcrow Group and Arup among others, the total investment in the project exceeded 1.4 billion US dollars. Due to its location on a seismic zone, the bridge was designed with earthquake-resistant features. Construction began in July 2005 and was completed in October 2009. The bridge spans a total length of 21.27 kilometers, including 12.3 kilometers over the sea, with six lanes in both directions. The main piers rise 238.5 meters from the seabed to the top, almost as high as Seoul’s 63 Building; the bridge piers stand 74 meters above the water surface, and the span between the main towers is 800 meters—twice that of the West Sea Bridge. Incheon Bridge is a popular tourist attraction in South Korea and has become an iconic landmark of Incheon. Its completion reduced travel time from Incheon International Airport to Songdo to just 20 minutes.
