Professor Do’s “superpower time-travel” & Incheon Asian Games opening ceremony sends the crowd wild

The 2014 Incheon Asian Games opened in grand style on the evening of the 19th, featuring captivating traditional Korean performances and dynamic cheerleading to start, followed by a surprise performance from the famous boy band EXO that triggered the first big cheer. The entire opening ceremony was star-studded, with “perfect guy” Jang Dong-gun, current superstar Kim Soo-hyun, Bae Yong-joon (Lee Young-ae), “Gangnam Style” sensation PSY, and JYJ all performing. Lee Young-ae also became the first non-athlete in history to light the cauldron.

The Incheon Asian Games opening ceremony “never had a dull moment.” After a performance depicting Korean culture through mail carrier dances, Kim Soo-hyun, dressed in a black suit, suddenly emerged from a skit traversing various Asian countries to join Jang Dong-gun in welcoming international dignitaries, echoing the ceremony’s theme: “Dreams of 4.5 Billion People, One Asia.” As athletes from 45 countries entered, Team China (Taiwan), the 37th team, marched in led by men’s volleyball team captain Chen Jian-zhen alongside athletes from shooting and track and field events, drawing loud cheers from Taiwanese fans in attendance.

Finally, as predicted, Lee Young-ae ascended the cauldron to light it. Then, PSY and Chinese pianist Lang Lang performed the finale “Champion,” inviting the whole audience to dance to “Gangnam Style,” electrifying the stadium and officially marking the start of the Asian Games. South Korea’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kim Jong-deok, stated that hosting the Asian Games in Incheon is of great significance, allowing the world to see Incheon and hoping to boost the city’s tourism development potential.
