Known for being affordable, great value, and delicious, Dan Dan Burger has earned the nickname “the fast food king of southern Taiwan.” Especially popular among students, the chain offers a diverse menu blending Eastern and Western flavors, along with frequent new product launches. In recent years, it has gradually gained fame beyond the region and has even become a must-try dish for many travelers visiting Kaohsiung. My cousin said that when she was little, Dan Dan’s sandwiches were incredibly tasty, especially the homemade mayonnaise. Now that the chain has expanded to many locations, she feels they don’t taste as good as before — a sentiment shared by many locals in Kaohsiung.

Super Juicy Crispy Chicken Leg Burger + Vermicelli Soup or Cantonese Congee (Branch Info Summary))

But for me, my personal favorite is Dan Dan’s “Super Juicy Crispy Chicken Leg Burger” — still delicious and cheap. The boneless crispy chicken leg in the burger is huge, with a crunchy exterior and juicy, tender meat. A single burger is just 55 NT$, and a set meal with a drink and corn chowder (or vermicelli soup or Cantonese congee) is only 79 NT$. If you add cheese and an egg, it’s only an extra ten-something NT$ — truly a great deal. You can’t find this kind of high-value burger up north.

Founded in 1984 (Republic of China Year 73), 【Dan Dan Burger】 has been around in Kaohsiung for thirty years. Its original store was the Qixian Branch in Kaohsiung, and it now has about forty outlets spread across Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Pingtung. It’s not available north of Tainan — it’s strictly a Southern Taiwan exclusive, with all locations being company-owned. To maintain quality, the owner has chosen not to do franchising but instead carefully evaluates each new location before opening.

Many people say that if a Dan Dan Burger opened next to a McDonald’s, that McDonald’s would definitely see a drop in business. Though a bit of an exaggeration, it shows how highly Dan Dan Burger is regarded among friends in the south.

Another standout feature of Dan Dan Burger is its fusion-style meals — pairing burgers with vermicelli soup or Cantonese congee. It’s a totally southern way to eat and leaves you 200% full. But a heads-up: Dan Dan’s vermicelli soup tends to be on the sweeter side. Most people from the north find it just okay, so we suggest not having overly high expectations for the vermicelli soup if you’re from up north.
