Yoon Bong-gil was a renowned Korean independence activist who threw a bomb hidden in a lunchbox at a Japanese commander, was arrested on the spot, and sentenced to death, dying a martyr at the age of 25. The Memorial Hall of the Martyr Yoon Bong-gil was built in 1988 with donations from Seoul citizens to commemorate the patriotism of the martyr.

The Memorial Hall of the Martyr Yoon Bong-gil is located at 236 Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul. It is a building with one basement level and three above-ground floors. The first floor houses an exhibition room on the life of the Martyr Yoon Bong-gil and a memorial room displaying his belongings. The life exhibition room is divided into three periods — his school days, his time as a farmer and laborer, and his heroic mission in Shanghai — presenting a detailed account of his life. The belongings room displays items he used, such as stationery, books, and other personal effects from that time, as well as medals and other memorabilia. The second floor contains an exhibition room of photos related to the independence movement and a video room. The independence movement photo room displays over 120 images, mainly reflecting armed struggle and heroic sacrifices during the independence movement. The video room screens biographical films about Yoon Bong-gil, as well as educational videos and movies for national inspiration.

The Yoon Bong-gil Memorial Hall showcases the life of the martyr, allowing visitors to learn about his entire journey from participating in farmer-labor activities to joining the independence movement within the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, as well as gain insight into the development of Korea’s independence movement.
