Cheonggyesan Mountain

Cheonggyesan Mountain is a mountain range that spans across Seoul’s Seocho District and the Gyeonggi Province cities of Seongnam, Uiwang, and Gwacheon. The mountain boasts beautiful scenery, with lively, clear mountain streams that add to its picturesque landscape, attracting many locals and visitors from afar to vacation and play here. This mountain range, together with Gwanaksan Mountain — the representative mountain of Gwanak District — is referred to as the “Azure Dragon and White Tiger” that guard Seoul.

Cheonggyesan Mountain was previously also called Azure Dragon Mountain. The appearance of the mountain varies from two different perspectives: when approaching from the Yangjae Interchange near the Gyeongbu Expressway, the right side reveals a gently undulating Cheonggyesan, but when viewed from near the main gate of Seoul Grand Park in Gwacheon, the summit area around Wangjingdae gives off a more rugged, rocky impression that feels somewhat imposing. Today, there are six established hiking trails on Cheonggyesan, clearly marked with signs at the base of the mountain for easy navigation. In addition, there are several attractions near Cheonggyesan, including Wangjingdae, the Nantae Ridge Ancient Road, Seonam, and the Choi Sa-rip Filial Piety Memorial Gate. Visitors can explore these spots before or after their hike for an extra rewarding experience.
