The area of Akechi Town, Ena City, Gifu Prefecture in central Japan flourished during the Meiji and Taisho eras thanks to its silkworm breeding and silk production industries, leaving behind a glorious chapter in history. Taisho Village is a theme park that has preserved the entire Akechi Town just as it was, capturing the atmosphere of the Taisho era. Here, visitors can still appreciate the silkworm-raising culture of the Taisho period and soak in the unique romantic ambiance of that time.

From local customs and architecture to lifestyle culture, human warmth, and nature, Taisho Village fully preserves the look and feel of a region where silk was once a key local industry during the Taisho era. Since its establishment in Showa 59 (1984), the village has attracted tens of thousands of visitors who come to explore and reminisce about the former silk-centered way of life. Taisho Village is both a small rural community and a tourist attraction. It features a variety of sites including a tourist information center, the Taisho Era Museum, a Toy Museum, a restored Kyoto-style old café, and the Tenkuu Museum. With its fresh air and beautiful scenery, it’s an ideal place for city dwellers to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the tranquility of old-fashioned rural life.

Scattered throughout Taisho Village are numerous points of interest that retain the charm of the Meiji and Taisho eras, such as traditional residences, castle ruins, shrines, and ancient tombs. The village also still has some cherry blossom trees planted during that period. In spring, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, they complement the historic buildings, filling the air with a sense of timeless history.
