Mino City is located in the central part of Gifu Prefecture and is renowned as the birthplace of Mino washi paper. Over 1,300 years ago, it had already developed into an industrial city for washi paper production. Surrounded by nature, Mino showcases ever-changing scenery throughout the four seasons, with its mountains, rivers, and skies reflecting one another.

Combining traditional Japanese elements with harmonious coexistence with nature, Mino City gradually grew into a central hub during the Edo period. As a major washi paper production center established by Feudal Lord Kinoshita Nagamasa, Mino still retains clear traces of that era. The machiya-style streets are among its most famous tourist destinations, featuring sake breweries, historical museums, and cafes, all exuding the atmosphere of the Edo period. For those wanting to learn more about Mino washi, the Mino Washi Village Hall and Mino Washi Lantern Art Museum are ideal places to visit. The area’s stunning natural scenery is also a must-see, including the Kanzuchi Gorge, Suoh Shrine’s trogon breeding ground, Oyada Shrine, Tanjō Mountain, Tennōyama, Ogura Park, Shindō Firefly Village Park, and the iris garden at Sodai Park.

Throughout Mino City, you’ll find dining spots, cafes, and art galleries repurposed from old traditional houses.
