Motosu City

Motosu City is a city located in the southwestern part of Gifu Prefecture, Japan, bordering Fukui Prefecture to the north. The epicenter of the 1891 Nōbi earthquake was situated in this city. The modernized city began development in 2004 and is home to the Gifu National College of Technology.

Motosu City is famous for its "Utsuro-zakura" (Pale Ink Cherry Blossom), a nationally protected plant standing 16 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 9.9 meters, a branch span of 27 meters east-west, and 25 meters north-south. It is a cherry blossom tree over 1,500 years old that attracts crowds of visitors every spring. Tourist sites in the area include Nagaya Shrine, Tokuyama Shrine, Nōgō Shirayama Shrine, Sōkei Ōtsuka Kofun, Utsuro Park, Neodani Fault, Earthquake Fault Observation Tube & Experience Hall, and Motosu Folklore Museum.
