Ogaki City

Ogaki City is a city located in the western part of Gifu Prefecture in central Japan. It is currently the only municipality in Japan that has two exclaves. Its primary local specialty is persimmons. The city is also known as the "City of Water," meaning a water town filled with rivers, some of which are used as moats for Ogaki Castle.

Ogaki Castle is a hirajiro (flatland castle) located in the city center of Ogaki. It is also nicknamed "Mochi Castle" or "Kajo Castle." At its peak, it had four layers of moats, but today only the existing tenshu (main keep) remains, with its interior mainly housing a museum dedicated to the Battle of Sekigahara. Currently, the innermost moat of Ogaki Castle has been filled in to create a park, and for tourism purposes, visitors can take historic-style cruise boats on the moat. Motosu Castle is located on a sandbank on the west bank of the Nagara River, positioned at a strategic transportation hub, and was the site of the Battle of Motosu River during the Warring States period. To the northwest of the Motosu Castle ruins is the Ichiyajo Park, which features the Motosu Ichijō-jo Historical Museum, reconstructed based on the model of Ogaki Castle’s tenshu. In addition, there are other structures such as Hakusu Shrine, Toyokuni Shrine, and the Toyotomi Hideyoshi Shrine.

In addition to Ogaki Castle and Motosu Castle, visitors can also explore sites such as Myōtai Temple, Sone Castle, Ishibiki Shrine, Kinsei Mountain Shrine, Goshu Shrine, Motosu Shrine, Hachiman Shrine, Oogami Shrine, Tenki Temple, and the Japan Showa Music Village.
