Hitachinaka City is a municipality in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, established in 1994 through the merger of the auspicious city of Kita and the historic fishing town of Nakaminato. In addition to boasting some of the prefecture’s top tourist attractions, it offers scenic spots for all seasons, making it an essential destination for any itinerary.

Hitachinaka City is home to Hitachinaka Seaside Park, renowned year-round for its flowers. More than just a park, it’s practically a garden—wherever you go, you’re surrounded by seas, worlds, and paradises of blooms, with each season offering a vibrant, thriving landscape. The mid-Mesozoic Cretaceous strata stretching between Ajigaura and Hiraiso coastal areas have been selected as one of Ibaraki’s Top 100 Scenic Spots. Formed by the tilting and exposure of hard rock layers dating back 25,000 to 65,000 years, the rugged, jagged ridges of rock create a spectacular sight. Nakaminato Seafood Market is one of the prefecture’s leading markets, where you can find fresh and affordable seafood.

The area also offers many unique local specialties, especially in cuisine—personality-packed signature dishes and creative foods that are well worth trying. Must-try treats include “Takayuki Meshi” (a dish featuring local octopus), Victory Sandwich, and Nakaminato Yakisoba.
