As summer draws to a close and plants begin transitioning from green to red, Ibaraki Prefecture’s “Hitachi Seaside Park” remains a top tourist spot beloved by visitors from around the world. In summer, the “Miharashi Hill,” blanketed with broom grass, is a vibrant green. When autumn arrives, the broom grass gradually turns red as if brushed with red paint, creating a joyful sea of crimson against the clear blue sky.

The Ibaraki tourism authorities note that between summer and autumn—roughly from late September to early October—the broom grass balls, once fresh green, don a spectacular gradient of red, forming a uniquely magnificent sight. Later, as the grass shifts from green to red, it gradually fades into brown or golden tones, one of the lesser-known highlights of “Miharashi Hill.”
