Zhongshan Football Stadium

Zhongshan Football Stadium is located in Zhongshan District, Taipei City, measuring 184 meters in width and 300 meters in length. It was historically the first standard football stadium in Taipei. Originally built as the Yuanshan Sports Ground during the Japanese colonial period in 1923, it featured facilities such as a baseball field, tennis courts, and a track and field area, and was converted into a football stadium in 1989; since Taiwanese people are not particularly enthusiastic about football, the frequency of football matches held here is quite low, and on regular days it is used as a venue for concerts or political campaign rallies to continue serving a function. In March 2007, to host the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo, the Taipei City Government selected Zhongshan Football Stadium and renovated it into the Expo's Competition Hall.

The theme of the Competition Hall is the art of floral competition. By repackaging the original football stadium, it creates a sense of competition. The exterior walls of the stadium were renovated and painted white with geometric petal patterns, evoking a vibrant atmosphere of flowers competing in beauty. Located near the Yuanshan entrance of the Flora Expo, the hall serves as the Expo's gateway, hence emphasizing a welcoming and enthusiastic image. As a result, many visitor service facilities are set up outside the hall. Covering an area of 6,000 square meters, the hall showcases floral technology from around the world. To help the public better appreciate the beauty of flowers and their importance in the environment, the exhibition incorporates concepts of environmental awareness and related technological applications, allowing visitors to enjoy international floral art while also gaining a greater understanding of the environment and technology. After the Flora Expo ended, Zhongshan Football Stadium was transformed into the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion, marking its official retirement.
