Great Buddha Scenic Area

The Great Buddha Scenic Area, also known as the Bagua Mountain Great Buddha Scenic Area, is one of the scenic areas under Taiwan’s Bagua Mountain Scenic Area. It is located on the mountainside of Bagua Mountain in the northeast of Changhua County. This scenic area is now managed by the Shan Shan National Scenic Area Administration. Major attractions within the area include the Bagua Mountain Great Buddha, the Spirit Pagoda, the Anti-Japanese Martyrs Memorial Park, and a fitness trail. It is also recognized as one of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Changhua.”

The Bagua Mountain Great Buddha was constructed from reinforced concrete. In front of the statue, two lions stand guard, and the base covers an area of 7 acres. From the lotus pedestal to the top of the Buddha, the height is approximately 22 meters, divided into six levels. The ground floor is a small shrine, while floors two to five feature statues and text describing key events in the life of the Buddha. Visitors can walk up the spiral staircase to reach the top. To the southwest of the Great Buddha is a newly developed refined garden area, which includes lawns, pergolas, rockeries, benches, and other facilities, making it a very peaceful resting spot.

The Bagua Mountain Great Buddha is the most iconic landmark in Changhua County. The scenic area boasts rich cultural and natural attractions, stunning scenery, and fresh air, attracting large numbers of backpackers every year.
